Industry:

Insulation solutions

Background

As the need for a more sustainable and environmentally sound approach to construction keeps growing, so does the demand for more innovative solutions. ISOVER – part of the Saint-Gobain group – designs, manufactures and markets insulating solutions. The company decided to take the lead in energy efficiency and demonstrate this by creating a European energy efficiency contest, for renovation projects.

Issue

The key to this project was to drive the message that ISOVER is the “insulation expert” in developing innovative solutions. Since the target group consisted of architects, contractors and engineering bureaus the core of the message was about the positive effects of insulation solutions in the fight against global warming. Finally, without the full support from ISOVER’s top management and local commitment for this European-wide contest, it had no chances of succeeding.

Approach

The contest was to recognize and reward solutions in renovation projects, which had reduced a buildings’ energy consumption by a factor of three. The scope of the contest and the rules were defined during a series of workshops with central and local representatives. A concept and graphical identity were created along with a series of online and offline communication tools: advertisements, participant dossier, e-mailing campaign, website, banners, and communication toolkit. The launch of the contest in 11 countries followed a kick-off press conference in Paris. Further support was provided to the French side for the organisation and running of the contest locally.

Results

THE ENERGY AWARS has been a unique way to add value to the ISOVER brand. Key to the success of the contest was the support and commitment of central and local project champions and teams. The schemes which took part in the awards were featured in a best of book which was extensively for PR and communication towards architects, government and the building sector.
